Stopping RIDE triggers investigation and leads to discovery of loaded gun

22-year-old Innisfil man faces multiple firearms-related charges; Police say the firearm was discovered stolen in southern Ontario

On Saturday, November 2, 2024, South Simcoe police officers were conducting the Everywhere Impaired Driving Reduction (RIDE) program on Innisfil Beach Road in Innisfil.

During the RIDE program, at around 1:15 a.m., police officers encountered a vehicle with open alcohol inside. Subsequent investigation led to the discovery of a loaded firearm in the possession of a 22-year-old male from Innisfil. The firearm was discovered stolen in southern Ontario.

The individual was arrested and charged with multiple firearms-related offenses as well as possession of stolen property. He was arrested for a bail hearing and charged with the following crimes:

  • carrying a concealed weapon
  • Possession of a Firearm Without Permission
  • Information about Possession of Unauthorized Firearm
  • Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm along with Ammunition
  • Person Who Knows There Is a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
  • Careless Use of Firearms, Weapons, Ammunition
  • Ownership of Criminally Obtained Property Less than $5,000
  • Provincial Crime Communiqué was issued for keeping alcohol in an open container without permission

“This seizure highlights the importance of proactive policing during programs like RIDE. Removing a loaded, stolen firearm from circulation prevents potential harm and underscores our commitment to community safety,” said Chief John Van Dyke. “I am proud of the dedication and professionalism shown by our officers early this past Saturday morning.” he said.
