BC elections say ballots at ballot box not counted, others not reported

BC Elections says a ballot box containing 861 votes was not counted in the last provincial election, as well as other errors found including the failure to report 14 votes in a key vote narrowly won by the NDP.

While the electoral body stated that the non-disclosure of the ballot box did not affect the result in the election of Prince George-Mackenzie, it said that the undeclared votes in Surrey-Guildford were revealed during preparations for a judicial recount in the election, which resulted in a 27-vote victory for Garry Begg. It gave the NDP a one-seat majority.
