Suspects of Lifman murder were caught on camera changing license plates

Two men believed to have shot and killed underworld kingpin Mark Lifman were caught on camera immediately after the shooting.

In the video footage shared with IOL, it is seen that the suspects changed the license plates of the vehicle after the armed attack on Sunday.

The duo, who both work for a Cape Town-based security firm, were caught driving a white VW Polo while gunning down Lifman at the Garden Route Shopping Center in the Southern Cape town of George on Sunday, according to a source.

“They shot him five times and sped away. Originally (the car) had CY plates and in the footage you can see them park in a field and change their plates to a CAA registration. This video shows them getting out of the car and going outside. Put the gun away and change the plate to avoid detection, ” the source told IOL.

Meanwhile, Western Cape Police confirmed the two shooters will appear in the George Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Police spokesman Colonel Andre Traut said: “As part of joint efforts to intervene in the crimes and arrest the perpetrators, two suspects have been interrogated and are now charged with the murder of a 57-year-old man outside the Garden Route Shopping Center in George.

“The couple, aged 37 and 53, were captured near Uniondale on Sunday afternoon and the vehicle they were traveling in was also seized. Their arrest followed a shooting incident that resulted in the death of the 57-year-old.

“After the suspects fled the scene, police, law enforcement agencies, security companies and crime monitoring groups took action to capture the suspects in the region. As a result, the pair were arrested a few hours later.”
