Patrick Mahomes: DeAndre Hopkins will get better as he figures out the offense

Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins’ second game with the Chiefs showed why the team traded him to the Titans last month.

Hopkins caught four passes in the first quarter and then hit Patrick Mahomes for a 35-yard touchdown pass despite being surrounded by defenders. That catch set up a one-yard touchdown, and Hopkins added a second touchdown with less than five minutes left in the game.

Mahomes found Hopkins once again on the game-winning drive in overtime, and the veteran finished the night with eight catches for 86 yards. Hopkins said in the post-match press conference: “more comfortable“More than in his first game with the Chiefs, and Mahomes thinks even bigger things are ahead for his new teammate.

“According to me he understood He’s going to get better throughout the entire offense because there are times when he’s going places and I’m like, ‘Man, there’s a time and a place for that, but that’s what makes him great,'” Mahomes said. “If you give him a chance on the field, he makes plays. . . . “To have a player like that, to stand out in a crowd of defenders and manage to catch the ball, is a special type of player.”

Hopkins’ presence seems likely to help end Travis Kelce’s numbers as well as his own numbers. He had 14 catches for 100 yards on Monday night and 24 catches for 190 yards through two weeks with the wideout in the lineup. All the numbers indicate that the Hopkins move would be very good for the Chiefs.
