Sayreville police officers shot two dogs to stop an attack on a 10-year-old boy, according to the Middlesex County prosecutor.

Police responded to a 911 call about an animal attack at the Knights Inn around 11:20 a.m. on Nov. 4. The family member contacted the police and stated that their children were attacked by the family’s dogs. The police came to the scene upon notice and saw the dogs attacking the child.

In the statement made by the prosecutor’s office, “In order to stop the attack on the child, the officers shot the dogs, and in the meantime, a police officer was superficially injured by the ricochet blow.” The statement was included.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Crimes Unit also responded to assist with the “active and ongoing” investigation, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Both the 10-year-old boy and the officer who was shot were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Both are listed in stable condition.

Police ask anyone with information or surveillance footage of the area to call Detective Stephanie Redline of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-745-3316.
