A jury has been sworn in for the High Court civil trial of MMA star Conor McGregor, who, along with another male defendant, is accused of “actually raping” a woman in a Dublin hotel in 2018.

Summing up the case to the jury, Mr Justice Owens said Mr McGregor was alleged to have sexually assaulted Nikita Ní Laimhín; Mr Justice Owens said this “actually amounts to an alleged rape (charge) that occurred in December”. 2018.

Ray Boland SC, for the plaintiff, in the High Court on Tuesday, Mr Justice Owens was told the hearing would last two weeks.

Mr McGregor, 36, attended court wearing a navy blue suit, navy blue tie and white shirt, and was accompanied by his father Tony and the co-defendant, who were seated at the back of the court.

His Honor Justice Owens told the jury that the complainant in the case was Ms Laimhín, a hair colourist, and that the case was a civil suit against both defendants in which the plaintiff sought damages.

Mr Justice Owens said the jury of eight women and four men were the main judges of the case and would be present for three weeks if the case was overtaken.

The judge said the jury was privy to the facts and should not think “all that glitters is gold”, should not discuss the case with others and should not be “private detectives” doing their own investigations. “You have enough work to do,” said Mr. Judge Owens.

Ms Ní Laimhín’s claim for compensation for an alleged sexual assault against Mr McGregor was made against the famous fighter three years ago.

The case was scheduled to be heard in late June or early July but was withdrawn after Mr McGregor agreed to a counter-application to postpone the hearing to allow him to participate in his UFC comeback bout against Michael Chandler in Las Vegas.

However, that competition was canceled after Mr. McGregor broke his toe during training.

The allegations in the lawsuits are completely denied by McGregor, once the world’s highest-paid athlete, and the other defendants.

Last month, the woman’s lawyers were given permission by Judge Denise Brett to subpoena witnesses and depositions in the case.

The plaintiff is represented by Ray Boland SC, John Gordon SC and Siún Leonowicz BL. Mr McGregor is represented by Remy Farrell SC.
