Baby dies after being accidentally shot by toddler in parked car in Texas

A baby died after being accidentally shot in the head by a toddler inside a parked car in San Antonio on Monday, police said.

The fatal shooting occurred in a parking lot outside the Audie L. Murphy Memorial VA Hospital, according to an NBC News affiliate. Alas.

Three children, ages three, two and one 10 or 11 months old, were in the car with a woman, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said at a news conference Monday.

McManus said one of the older children grabbed a long gun from the back of the vehicle and accidentally shot the baby. Police aren’t sure how the gun was hidden.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the baby as Khamari Khols Lang, according to online records.

“What we have here today is a terrible, terrible tragedy,” McManus said.

Lang’s aunt, Kheena-Marie Hutton, is a online fundraiser to support his family. As of Friday afternoon, it had raised more than half of its $5,000 goal.

“Khamari was just 11 months old and the youngest of six siblings,” Hutton wrote on the fundraising page. “She brought so much joy to our lives and was in the process of learning to walk. Her loving spirit will be greatly missed.”

Lang’s family recently moved to San Antonio and was looking for a new home and job to “rebuild their lives,” Hutton said.
