Woman Stands ‘Very Close’ to Man in Line to Vote, But Not What She Thought

A man queuing to vote in the US election in New York panicked when he noticed a woman standing unusually close behind him.

However, she quickly realized the real reason for his unusual behavior, causing him to do some thinking in the process.

New York’s Matt Martinez knows there’s something in the air as America decides on the next President of the United States. “I think tensions are always high around election times,” he said news week.

There has already been at least one case of tension in South Carolina, with ugly scenes at an early voting site in Orangeburg County.

Footage of a fight involving a poll worker and a man trying to vote went viral, raising questions about what to expect when polls open on Election Day. There is even the danger of pneumonia, According to some health experts.

Martinez said she felt “nervous but hopeful” as she headed to vote. “I would say cautiously optimistic,” he added. However, as he entered the queue for the ballot box, something about the woman standing right behind him started to bother him.

“You know how to get in line and sometimes people don’t have full awareness of other people’s personal space. I started to get annoyed because he kept bumping into me and following me like a shadow,” Martinez said.

Considering the scenes witnessed in Orangeburg and before President Donald Trump’s “fraud” claims Martinez’s imagination began to run wild with what the woman might be up to. Then he saw something that changed his entire perspective on what was happening. “Out of the corner of my eye, I saw him leaning into my shadow and I realized what he was doing,” he said.

In a video posted on Martinez’s tiktok@vague mattehe revealed with the camera pointed at his face and the woman standing just behind him, largely out of view.

The screen reads, “I’m getting in line to vote and this woman is very close to me.” “I was going to say something, but I realized he was using me to hide from the sun. I caught you, lady.”

Matt Martinez understands what's going on.

At one point in the clip, Martinez moves the camera to reveal the unnamed woman hiding behind him. He said understanding what was going on gave him “a good moment of self-reflection.” The video was an extension of that.

“I thought it would be a nice moment for me to make a short video to remind people of the good in people and give them the benefit of the doubt,” Martinez said. “The funny thing is, I’m only 5 feet 7 inches tall. Even though my wife is 4 feet 10 inches tall, I never noticed that apparently shorter people do this all the time.”

What made the moment more interesting for Martinez was that he and the woman “didn’t say a word to each other.” at a time America looks sharply divided on politicsMartinez said she hopes her experience and the video she shared will help people understand that “being kind always feels good.”

“I have a video that I shared about a week ago where I explain that I want my daughter to say a few things out loud on the way to school every day,” Martinez added. “One of those things is ‘do the right thing even when no one’s watching.’ “I felt like this was one of those moments.”
