French court sentences pro-Palestinian activist to three years in prison for ‘glorifying terrorism’

A pro-Palestinian activist in France was sentenced to three years in prison for “glorifying terrorism” on social media, broadcaster France 3 reported.

The channel reported that activist Amira Zaiter from the southern city of Nice was detained on September 19 for glorifying terrorism, crimes against humanity and hate speech on social media.

The founder of the organization De Nice a Gaza (Nice to Gaza) was sentenced to three years in prison, including two years of suspension and one year of an electronic bracelet.

Zaiter organized the first pro-Palestinian protests in Nice in October 2023, when Israel launched an attack on Gaza.

Last month, the Paris prosecutor’s office requested an eight-month suspended prison sentence for another pro-Palestinian activist, Elias d’Imzalene, who was accused of “public incitement to hatred or violence” after speaking during a rally in Paris. He used the word “Intifada”.

He was detained on 24 September on the grounds that he called for an armed uprising during the demonstration on 8 September.
