GhaziabadAs local lawyers’ indefinite strike enters its second day, the country’s judicial system faces significant disruptions. Following the recent clash with the police at the district judge’s court, Bar Association members have been organizing separate sit-ins to protest the baton charge of the police during the incident. The protest led to the locking of all four entrance gates of the court; Only one door remained open for judges, magistrates and judicial staff.

Thousands of Cases Postponed

A senior judicial official, who preferred to remain anonymous, said nearly 12,000 cases had been postponed due to the ongoing strike. While lawyers continue their demonstrations, litigants who come to the district court are forced to take other routes. The conflict arose as tensions rose between police and lawyers following a heated argument between a judge and a lawyer on October 29.

Liability Claims

Ghaziabad Bar Association and Regional Bar Association They were united in their demands, demanding the suspension of District Judge Anil Kumar and disciplinary action against the police officers involved in the baton attack. Nahar Singh Yadav, former president of the Bar Association, noted that although judicial officers returned to their seats after Diwali, lawyers did not appear for cases. The strike has been extended to Modinagar, Loni and Sadar Tehsil Bar Associations, which have been avoiding judicial work since Monday.

Expressing concern about the far-reaching impact on the legal system, senior advocate Sudhir Tyagi, with 72 judicial officers overseeing various courts in Ghaziabad, said, “The disruption is affecting cases in all these judicial bodies.” The future of many cases remains uncertain as the strike continues.
