Suspect captured after police opened fire in central Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZ Family) — Police say a suspect is “down” following an officer-involved shooting in downtown Phoenix Tuesday morning.

Details are limited at this time, but Phoenix police said the shooting occurred near 7th Street and Clarendon Boulevard, just south of Indian School Road.

Police said no officers or community members were injured in the attack.

An investigation is ongoing.

This is the second officer-involved shooting in Phoenix in the past 24 hours.

On Monday night, police responded to a home burglary. Officers arrived and the suspect was in a vehicle; Police then chased the suspect before he crashed into a wall near 15th and Wier streets. Police said the suspect pointed a gun at officers, who then fired a gun. The suspect died at the scene.

Tuesday’s shooting was the 47th officer-involved shooting in Maricopa County and the 80th shooting in the state so far in 2024.
