Boy accused of online threat to Taft Middle School may face charges

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Cedar Rapids police say a minor who admitted to making online threats against Taft Middle School and students may face charges following an investigation into the incident.

Cedar Rapids School District plans to hold classes as usual on Tuesday.

Investigators said after CRCSD staff alerted police, they were able to quickly identify and interview the minor, who admitted to making the threat.

Police said both they and the school district take any threats seriously and thoroughly investigate each report.

Authorities are now asking parents and guardians to take a moment to discuss with their children the dangers of making threats and the importance of reporting threats online and in person to a trusted teacher, law enforcement officer or parent.
