ECU police say there was another rape on campus

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – East Carolina University police say they are investigating another rape of a student in a dormitory.

The most recent sexual assault occurred in the early hours of Friday. Campus Alert says police were notified of the attack around 5:15pm on Monday.

The incident took place in Garrett Hall between two people who did not know each other.

The warning states that the suspect “took advantage of someone calling for help, did not allow her to leave the room, and sexually assaulted her.”

ECU said those involved in this rape have been identified and police continue to investigate what happened.

Police said this rape was not related to an alert issued last Wednesday.

In this situation, Sexual assault occurred at Tyler Hall I returned on September 30th.

A crime report stated that the incident was a second-degree forcible rape and that it was an open investigation.

The university also received reports that the same individual “inappropriately touched two different victims at off-campus parties earlier this month,” the alert states.

ECU’s list of on-campus crimes also includes a second-degree forcible rape that occurred Oct. 28 in Clement Hall. No campus alerts have been issued regarding this crime and it remains an open investigation.
