Teen sentenced to up to 100 years in prison in Omaha gas station murder

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – 17-year-old teenager charged in connection with a crime January murder The suspect, who was found at a gas station in central Omaha, appeared in court Tuesday.

Delvin Amaya, 17, of Omaha, was sentenced to 80 to 100 years in prison for second-degree murder and use of a firearm to commit a crime, according to court documents.

HE “No contest,” he begged He was arraigned in September and the first-degree murder charge was changed to second degree.

He had four previous charges dropped: two counts of second-degree assault and two counts of use of a firearm to commit a felony.

Records show that for the first time court appearance Delvin was previously required to appear in court for a parole review on murder-related charges in January. He was 16 years old at the time.

The case involves third-degree assault and carrying a concealed weapon. Amaya was sentenced to indefinite probation in July 2020. He was held without bail.

Her father, Mario Amaya-Castillo, 46, of Omaha, was charged with accessory to murder and tampering with evidence.

Amaya-Castillo entered the plea in September to charges of attempting to tamper with physical evidence and obstructing government operations, both misdemeanors.

He will be sentenced on December 3.
