Lethbridge police officer charged with assault

A Lethbridge police officer has been charged in connection with a physical fight that occurred while he was on duty at a holding facility.

The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) said the incident occurred on May 10, 2023, at the short-term detention facility.

No one was injured in an argument that broke out during the arrest of a male prisoner.

“The matter came to light upon review of the officer’s use of force report, which is a document that must be submitted when any use of force other than collaborative handcuffing and escort techniques is used,” the LPS statement said.

The professional standards unit investigated the incident and referred it to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service.

After reviewing the investigation, prosecutors recommended assault charges be filed against 23-year LPS member Chris Stock.

He is scheduled to appear in court on December 10. He was appointed to administrative duties until the outcome of the case in court.
