Lewiston man stabbed during transient incident in downtown Auburn

AUBURN — A 34-year-old transient was charged Tuesday with stabbing a Lewiston man in the stomach near the TD Bank at 10 Great Falls Plaza.

Auburn police wrote in a Facebook post that the 23-year-old man entered the bank around noon and asked for help for a stab wound. He was transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Shortly after arriving on scene at 12:04 a.m., police searched the area around the bank and located Walter Hawkins, who was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and violation of parole in connection with the stabbing, according to the post.

Hawkins was transported to the Androscoggin County Jail, where he remains without bail until his appearance before a judge.
