Woman stabbed in Grand Rapids dies, attacker harms himself with knife

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A woman was stabbed to death in downtown Grand Rapids Wednesday morning.

The attack happened just before 9:30 a.m. on Division Avenue near Bartlett Street, according to the Grand Rapids Police Department.

The suspect then pointed the knife at several people, police said. He is receiving medical care in the hospital.

The likelihood of survival is unknown.

First responders are on the scene of a fatal stabbing on Division Avenue in Grand Rapids on November 6, 2024.

Police Chief Eric Winstrom said the incident likely started as a domestic situation. There is not believed to be any threat to the public.

Police are investigating whether there have been previous 911 calls regarding the suspect or victim.

The attack occurred just outside Catholic Central High School but did not impact the school day, according to the chief.
