Plane carrying four people made an emergency landing in the Nebraska Panhandle

ALLIANCE, Neb. (KNOP) – A plane flying over the Nebraska Panhandle caused widespread fear after losing power on Wednesday.

At 8.30 in the morning, the single-engine plane carrying four passengers, including the pilot, lost power and was in danger of shutting down. Additionally, there was only about 60 pounds of fuel left on the plane.

FAA Denver Center and local officials began coordinating a safe landing.

The Alliance Police Department, along with the volunteer fire department and airport maintenance personnel, were dispatched to Alliance Airport to assist with the situation.

The plane landed successfully without incident and all units were allowed to return to normal operations by 8:40 a.m., police said. Police said no injuries were reported and the situation was resolved safely and efficiently.

“Our role in this incident was to support the incident command established by the Alliance Volunteer Fire Department. Our partnership and ability to work together is an asset to our community,” said APD Chief David Leavitt.

Fire Chief Troy Shoemaker and Airport Manager Lynn Placek stated that the safety of citizens is their top priority and that they were pleased that the incident ended without any harm to the pilot or the public.
