GRAND FORKS — A Grand Forks man is facing seven charges, including attempted murder, after a recent incident in which he allegedly stabbed a man multiple times before fleeing the scene in a stolen vehicle.

Moses Garang Ayom, 44, is charged with attempted class A felony murder, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Ayom also faces a Class B felony between $10,000 and $50,000, assault with a weapon, a Class C felony, a Class C felony fleeing an officer, a Class C felony reckless endangerment with extreme indifference, a Class B misdemeanor reckless driving and a Class B misdemeanor. He was in a stolen Dodge Ram 3500 pickup and was pursued by four law enforcement agencies in two counties before he was caught.

After being booked into the Grand Forks County Jail, Ayom told police he stabbed the man, adding that it was unprovoked but chose to do so because the man was white, according to the affidavit.

Ayom allegedly said he stabbed the man because he felt pressure from President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to take action after Biden referred to “them” as “trash” in a recent statement.

Ayom also allegedly said that the United States was at war.

The affidavit stated that the stabbed man received two wounds, one of which was in his back, puncturing his lung. The emergency room doctor stated that the injured were in life-threatening condition.
