East Point murder: Cousin arrested in fatal shooting

The person who allegedly killed his cousin was arrested. Police say Jaylen Hill shot and killed Righteous Torrence Hill during an argument at a home in East Point and then fled. The gunman surrendered to police in Columbus after the U.S. Marshals began searching for him, authorities confirmed.

Terri Wilson waited months for a break in her partner’s murder case. “I would say every month is the fifth month, the sixth month,” Wilson said.

Last February, Wilson’s partner, Righteous, was shot to death in their East Point home. “This is a pain that will never go away,” Wilson said.

Police said Hill’s cousin, Jaylen Hill, pulled the trigger. Wilson said Jaylen shot Righteous during an argument about using Righteous’ car. “I’m having a hard time accepting that he’s not here,” Wilson said.

The armed defendant had been on the run since the winter. Wilson was concerned that Righteous would never receive justice. “I was feeling discouraged,” he said.

Then came the moment Wilson had been waiting for. Jaylen Hill surrendered to police. “I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders,” Wilson said.

He wonders how he’ll feel when he hears details in court that could reopen painful wounds.

“That’s going to open up a whole other door of emotions, hearing things that I’m probably not sure about. Medical exam reports or just information that I don’t know due to the nature of the case,” Wilson said.

Jaylen remains in jail without bail. He is charged with two counts of murder and one count of aggravated assault.
