A man was arrested for allegedly attacking a woman in the Mound Cemetery this week.

Dylan Mitchell Sprague, 22, of last known address in Marietta, was arrested Monday for his involvement in the alleged assault at Mound Cemetery, according to Marietta Police Capt. Aaron Nedeff.

Sprague was charged with strangulation, aggravated assault, aggravated menacing, obstructing official business, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia and was transported to the Washington County Jail, according to a Marietta Police press release.

There was no information available on whether the charges were felonies or misdemeanors.

Sprague’s arrest stemmed from a disturbance that Marietta Police responded to at Mound Cemetery at approximately 12:47 a.m. Monday, according to the release. Police found a woman sitting next to a tree, bleeding from her mouth and suffering from other injuries.

The woman was 22 years old and her last known address was Belpre, according to Nedeff.

He said the disturbance was related to Sprague and the woman. “A young homeless couple” those who remain in the cemetery and they “I had a fight.”

“(Sprague) beat him up pretty good.” Nedeff said.

Nedeff said Sprague left the scene and police found him in East Muskingum Park around 4 a.m. and a foot pursuit began, according to the statement.

“(Officers) chased him.” Nedeff said.

The woman’s injuries were serious enough for Sprague to be charged with aggravated assault, but were not life-threatening, according to Nedeff.

He was transported to Marietta Memorial Hospital, he said.

The case against Sprague was filed Monday in Marietta Municipal Court, and he was arraigned at 8 a.m. Monday, according to court records. He remained in prison as of Wednesday afternoon.

Sprague has a preliminary hearing and a hearing to modify the temporary protective order in municipal court until Nov. 13 at 1 p.m., according to court records.
