Care workers arrested over allegations of violence and negligence

Three care workers have been arrested over allegations of violence and willful neglect at a home in Devon, police said.

Devon and Cornwall Police said they were contacted recently due to concerns about the care of residents at the Knappe Cross Care Center on Brixington Lane in Exmouth.

Officers launched a criminal investigation into activities at the home and arrested three staff members, who were released on bail while investigations continued.

Police said: “Robust security arrangements are now in place and the safety and ongoing care of residents remains the top priority.”

Knappe Cross has 42 beds and opened in 1987. Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection Published in February 2023, he said it requires improvement.

Officers said they were working closely with Devon County Council Adult Protective Services and QCQ to ensure inappropriate activity was addressed and lessons learned for the future.
