INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis police detained a man after a six-hour standoff on the city’s east side.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a gunman at a home on South Gladstone Boulevard, north of Christian Park, just before 10 p.m. Wednesday evening.

Upon arrival, IMPD and Indiana State Police officers learned that an armed man was holding a woman against her will inside the home.

The man was repeatedly ordered to come out but he refused.

At one point, the suspect opened fire on officers, IMPD said.

This tension continued until 4:25 a.m., when the man was taken into custody “without incident.”

No injuries were reported.

Police did not say who the suspect was or why he barricaded himself inside the house.

News 8 has reached out to IMPD for additional information.
