Man sentenced in sexual abuse case

charleston, W.Va.. (WSAZ) – A man who failed to register as a sex offender was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Dale Wayne DeBarr, 50, of Charleston, was convicted of two counts of first offense failure to register as a sex offender on August 20, 2024, by entering a Guilty Plea.

In September 2003, DeBarr was indicted in Upshur County, West Virginia, on two counts of first-degree sexual abuse.

He was sentenced to 15 years in State Prison for each count and was ordered to register as a Sex Offender for Life.

DeBarr, who was required to register as a sex offender for life and update his registration in June 2023, failed to do so, according to court documents.

In June 2024, DeBarr failed to update his physical address on the registry as required.
