Family wants answers in Lorain woman’s disappearance

LORAIN, Ohio — Family and friends are searching for answers in the disappearance of a Lorain woman. The last reported contact with Desiree Long occurred on Oct. 9, police said.

His mother said she was desperate for news from her eldest child.

“He loved his children, he loved his family. He would do anything for us. He would do anything for whoever he was. Besides the lifestyle he chose, he was a good person,” said Michelle Long.

Michelle said Desiree struggled with addiction and that her substance abuse put a strain on their relationship at times.

“He chose drugs over family, children, life and love,” he said.

Despite tensions over the 33-year-old not returning home, Michelle said her daughter always responded when family members reached out to her.

“That’s what’s killing us; not being able to talk to him,” he said. “His father, his cousins, his sisters, his aunts, no one (had heard from him). They want to talk to him right now.”

Police said multiple sources reported that Desiree had traveled to Cleveland in recent weeks, and some said Desiree may have shared a ride with Lorain, such as an Uber or Lyft. Detectives were unable to confirm the information and told News 5 his last confirmed location was in Lorain and he did not have a GPS-enabled cell phone that could track him.

“Everybody made up stories. Some people followed the clues, tried to see, but still nothing, no Desiree, nothing,” Michelle said.

Other family and friends told News 5 they searched for Desiree themselves. Some said they checked places he frequented, even searching abandoned houses and vacant lots.

“You’re thinking the worst. Michelle said: ‘That’s all I can think of right now; “Nothing good comes out of this,” he said.

She is asking anyone with information about her daughter to come forward.

“I won’t have any questions. Direct me to Desiree. That’s all I ask,” he said. “At the end of the day, she is a sister, she is a daughter, she is an aunt, she is a niece, she is a woman and she is a human being.”

If you have information on Desiree’s whereabouts, contact Lorain Police at 440-204-2105.
