Prosecution failed to present sufficient evidence: Prasad – FBC News

The defense lawyer representing Bradley Dawson, an American citizen accused of murdering his wife Christe Chan, argued before the Lautoka High Court that the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence to convict his client.

Dawson is accused of beating Chan to death at the isolated Turtle Island Resort. In 2022.

Advocate Anil Prasad, in his closing argument, alleged that the prosecution did not present reliable or credible evidence to support the murder charge.

Prasad emphasized that without concrete evidence, no reasonable court could convict Dawson based solely on the evidence presented.

One of the main arguments put forward by the defense is the lack of direct evidence linking Dawson to his wife’s death.

Although the prosecution claimed that Dawson planned to flee the country, authorities did not acknowledge that most of the couple’s personal belongings remained at the facility, contradicting the escape story, Prasad said.

Prasad also questioned the integrity of the police investigation, stating that there were no injuries to suggest that Dawson had been involved in a physical fight with his wife.

According to Prasad, this lack of supporting evidence undermines the prosecution’s claim of a violent struggle.

The defense also objected to inconsistencies in witness statements and police statements, calling into question the coherence of the case against Dawson.

Prasad criticized the police’s actions and claimed that the police violated Dawson’s constitutional rights by denying him access to key statements during the investigation.

Dawson’s statements during a discreet interview included a confession; “fight” Along with Chan, Prasad argued that this confession was not enough to prove that his client caused fatal injuries.

Additionally, the defense pointed out that Dawson’s statement only linked him to the resort’s bure, not the toilet or bathroom where Chan’s body was found.
