Drew Volpe: Wokings were ‘dead in the water’ before agreeing to sale

Volpe said Johnson first expressed interest in buying the club, which currently sits 18th in the National League, “in February or March”.

“Todd brings a wealth of experience in both football and business,” he said.

“He shares the same vision as me: At some point you run out of money.

“Honestly, I think the sky is the limit for this club now that we have the right people.”

Volpe and business partner John Katz took over Woking in 2021.

A 15th-place finish in the National League in 2021-22 was followed by a promotion push in 2022-23 that saw them finish fourth behind Wrexham, Notts County and Chesterfield, with Woking losing out to Bromley in play-off qualification.

Woking, who have had a difficult start to the season, are only four points behind the relegation zone with one win in their last 12 matches in all competitions.

Volpe said the next step in the sale is to hold a general meeting with existing shareholders before the deal is completed.
