Phoenix double attack suspect detained near Tucson

PHOENIX (AZ Family) — Authorities in Arizona took a man into custody after responding to three separate scenes, including one near Tucson, connected to an overnight double shooting in Phoenix.

Phoenix police responded to two people suffering from gunshot wounds just before 2 a.m., according to a lieutenant at the scene. 27th Street and McDowell Road.

Police determined that the man and woman were first shot at a nearby home. 51st Street and McDowell Road. They tried to get themselves to the hospital, but stopped near 27th Street to call 911.

Phoenix police said both shooting victims had non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect fled the scene southbound on I-10; where Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers and police officers tracked him down to the Marana area, just north of Tucson.

He was barricaded inside an armed vehicle, but soldiers detained him around 7 a.m.

The roadblock situation caused authorities to close I-10 in both directions near Cortaro Road. The highway fully reopened just before 8 a.m.

Marana Police, Pinal County Sheriff’s Office and DPS assisted Phoenix Police in the investigation.

Police have not yet identified the suspect.
