Don Mattingly’s son Preston Mattingly promoted to Philadelphia Phillies general manager

PHILADELPHIA — Preston Mattingly, son of former star baseman and manager Don Mattingly, was promoted to general manager of the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday under president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski.

Sam Fuld, General Manager since December 2020, is studying for his Master of Business Administration at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and will become the team’s chief operating officer when he receives his degree in May 2026.

Fuld will oversee business operations departments after graduation and will share GM duties with Mattingly until then.

Mattingly, 37, played in the minor leagues from 2006-11, then attended Lamar University, where he captained the basketball team and earned his bachelor’s degree in 2016.
