OPP officer stabbed in Orillia released from hospital and recovering at home – CP24

The Ontario Provincial Police officer who was stabbed in the line of duty in Orillia on Thursday has been released from hospital and is currently recovering at home.

OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique offered the update in a statement on Friday.

“Officers put themselves at risk every day to keep their communities safe and often face unforeseen situations,” he said.

“Any attacks on police officers are completely unacceptable because they undermine the safety and security of our communities and the vital role law enforcement plays in protecting us all.”

The police officer was stabbed while responding to a report.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) used its authority after a police officer fired a firearm multiple times at a 26-year-old man following a stabbing.

The man later died in hospital. The circumstances leading to the stabbing and shooting are under investigation.

The SIU, called in to investigate allegations of sexual assault, serious injury or death involving Ontario police officers, has assigned five investigators and three forensic examiners to the case.
