Los Angeles Kings Forward Suspended After Vicious Hit Against Canucks

What seemed inevitable has now been confirmed, with Los Angeles Kings forward Tanner Jeannot suspended for three games following an illegal check on the head of Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser on Thursday night.

Jeannot took a bad hit on Boeser in the first period and received an immediate match penalty, which made him eligible. automatic suspension Hearing determines only the length. Vancouver would go on to win 4-2 away.

Standing 6-2 and weighing 220 pounds, Jeannot is no stranger to landing big blows on his opponents. The 27-year-old was previously fined $2,000 for kneeing Ottawa Senators star Brady Tkachuk in March 2022, but this will be his first penalty at the NHL level. His lack of suspension history probably helped him get off relatively easy this time.

Jeannot is in his first season with the Kings following an offseason trade from the Tampa Bay Lightning, who acquired him from the Nashville Predators for a hefty sum at the 2023 trade deadline.

He recorded 82 points (43 goals, 39 assists) and 350 penalty minutes in 242 career games. This season, he played in 15 games with two points (one goal, one assist) and 36 penalty minutes with an average of 10:28 of ice time.

The Moraran forward will be eligible to return when the Kings host the Detroit Red Wings on Nov. 16. Until then, Los Angeles will be without its best enforcer for the next week.
