Candyman and Final Destination star Tony Todd dies at 69

Hollywood actor and horror icon Tony Todd passed away at the age of 69.

The actor, known for his roles in Candyman and the Final Destination horror series, died at his home in Marina Del Rey on Wednesday. California.

His death was confirmed by a representative, but the cause of death was not disclosed.

During his 40-year career, Todd had more than 240 film and TV credits to his name.

Born in Washington, D.C., in 1954, Todd trained at the Eugene O’Neill National Actors Theater Institute and Trinity Rep Conservatory, and his first screen role was as heroin addict Sergeant Warren in the Oscar-winning Vietnam War film Platoon.

He later appeared in popular TV series of the 80s and 90s such as 21 Jump Street, MacGyver, Matlock, Law & Order, The X-Files, Beverly Hills 90210, Xena: Warrior Princesss, Murder, She Wrote and Star Trek: The Next. took it. Generation.

He first starred in 1990’s Night of the Living Dead, then played the legendary title character with a hook in his hand in 1992’s Candyman; he reprized the role in the 1995 sequel Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh and Candyman: Day of the Dead four years later.

Later in 2021, he also starred in Candyman, a direct sequel to the 1992 original and starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as an artist caught up in the Candyman urban legend.

Todd has also appeared in other horror franchises; He played funeral home owner William Bludworth in Final Destination and its many sequels.

He also played Grange, Michael Wincott’s right-hand man in the 1994 film The Crow, starring Brandon Lee.

In a 2022 interview with Deadline, Todd talked about working to make audiences sympathize with his characters.

‘There has to be something appealing about the character that makes people want to support them but also be disgusted by the idea,’ he said.

‘And for me personally, in every movie I make, I create a backstory for all the people who are tortured and for my heroes.’

In recent years, Todd has appeared in film, TV and video games, including the TV series Chuck, Dead of Summer and Scream.

He has also been credited as a voice actor in the Star Trek and Call of Duty games and as the voice of Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

The actor, who has continued to work on many projects in recent years, currently has more than nine films in the post-production stage.
