A 37-year-old Singaporean Sinhalese man was arrested after a knife attack on a priest at St Joseph’s Church in Upper Bukit Timah.

It turned out that the man also stabbed Catholic priest Father Christopher Lee.

Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam said: Facebook On the evening of November 9, he published a post stating that the man had previously declared to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) that he was a Christian.

He added: “We ask the faithful to remain calm and avoid speculation on social media while police conduct their investigations. The church does not condone violence of any kind.”

The church called on the public to pray for the speedy recovery of the priest, the alleged attacker and those present at the service, especially children who may have been affected by the incident.

He added that he would provide updates when more information becomes available.

The man has a history of crimes and is believed to have acted alone

Based on preliminary investigations, police believe the man acted alone and do not suspect it was an act of terrorism at this time.
