White Settlement man faces burglary charges in connection with home invasion

White Settlement police said they arrested a man several hours after the alleged home invasion Friday after finding his dropped phone near the scene of the crime.

Francisco Avila, 21, currently faces a burglary charge, but police say he could face more charges as the investigation continues. As of Saturday morning, it was unclear whether he had an attorney.

Surveillance video they obtained shows a man wearing gloves and a hooded sweatshirt trying to open two nearby residential doors before finding an unlocked door.

The post stated that a woman was sleeping in the apartment and did not know the suspect.

According to police, the man robbed her at knifepoint and fled on foot, taking some of her money and keys. They said the victim also suffered a serious injury to his hand, but was able to receive medical attention and leave the hospital that day.

Hours after the incident, police next Facebook post They were able to identify Avila as the suspect after finding his fallen phone with a flashlight on near the scene. They detained him while he was wandering around the nearby Westlake Gardens Apartment Complex, suggesting he might have been searching for his phone at the time.

They later found more evidence at Avila’s home linking him to the case and two felonies unrelated to the home invasion, according to police.

As of Saturday morning, Avila still faces only one theft charge, according to the White Settlement police department’s press officer.

But he was later transferred from the White Settlement county jail to the Tarrant County jail, according to public records.
