Officers said the boys, aged between 16 and 17, were part of a group with links to jailed gangster Ashim Ahmad, known as Hashim Baba.

Police said the minors first opened fire on two men with whom they had a financial dispute in Kabir Nagar near Welcome, killing one of them, and then went about 5 km to Jyoti Nagar on a stolen scooter and opened fire on a house on the orders of a local person. gangster.

Deputy commissioner of police (northeast) Rakesh Paweriya said the three people were arrested a few hours after the murder was reported.

Giving details of the case, officers said that the police control room received a call from Guru Teg Bahadur hospital at 1.39 am and was informed that two men had been brought with gunshot wounds and one of them was declared dead on arrival. Police launched an investigation and identified the deceased as 24-year-old Mohammed Nadeem, a resident of Welcome. The injured person was identified as 23-year-old Shahnawaz (who goes by one name), one of the neighbors.

“A PCR call was received in which the caller said three people shot at Nadeem and Shahnawaz. Paweriya said three spent cartridges were found at the scene along with a bicycle.”

Police investigation revealed that Nadeem, Shahnawaz and their friend Aman (identified by name only) were on a scooter in Kabir Nagar around 1am when they were ambushed by three assailants who opened fire on them. While Nadeem and Shahnawaz were shot in the hail of bullets, Aman managed to escape.

Police said they left their scooter while taking cover and the three attackers used it to escape the scene.

Investigators also learned of another shooting reported at 1.26 a.m. from Jyoti Nagar; Rahul Kumar, who called in this incident, said that three attackers on scooters fired seven-eight shots into his house.

Kumar’s family said that he got into an argument with some people, and his older brother Anil was shot and injured in September.

Police said CCTV footage installed in Jyoti Nagar showed three men on a scooter opening fire at Kumar’s house before escaping. It was determined that the accused were children with the help of CCTV footage and human intelligence.

Putting two and two together, investigators concluded that the attackers in both cases were the same.

“After a detailed investigation, the police team found that the description of the attackers was similar in both cases. The team identified the suspects based on intelligence gathered from various sources. “Many raids were carried out and they were caught late in the morning,” said Paweriya, adding that two semi-automatic pistols, a village-made pistol and a few cartridges were seized from their possession.

A second officer involved in the investigation said the three youths were part of an outfit calling itself the “Makoka gang”, run exclusively by minors and often working for the Hashim Baba gang.

“One of the members of the so-called Makoka gang was also involved in a shooting incident at GTB hospital in July in which a man was mistakenly killed,” the officer said.
