Man arrested after child injured in Elizabeth City shooting

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WITN) – Police say a child is in the hospital following a shooting in Elizabeth City on Saturday.

Elizabeth City police said they responded to 108 Queen Street at 4:09 a.m. for a report of shots fired and found it had been shot.

Officers said they found several bullet casings nearby.

During the investigation, police discovered that a child had been shot in the leg with a gun.

Authorities said two more suspects, a child and an adult, were found near the scene and taken into custody.

The injured child was transported to Sentara Hospital in Elizabeth City and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigating officers located and seized two 9 mm pistols and a .38 special pistol.

Quavion Martin, 20, of the 300 Block of Bank Street in Elizabeth City, was charged with aggravated assault on an occupied dwelling, police said.

Martin was booked into the Albemarle County Jail without bond, with an initial appearance scheduled for Tuesday, November 12, 2024, in Pasquotank County Court.
