3 more European airlines canceled flights to Israel due to regional tension

JERUSALEM

Three major European airlines have canceled flights to and from Israel due to rising regional tensions, Israeli media said on Sunday.

According to Israel Hayom newspaper, Italian airline ITA Airways announced that all flights to and from Israel will be stopped until January 12.

ITA Airways is the only Italian airline that operates regularly in Israel.

French airline Air France also extended the suspension of all flights to Israel until December 26.

Air France had previously canceled its weekly flights but has now decided to impose a flight suspension that lasts approximately 45 days.

The airline had initially canceled flights until November 12 but has now extended the period further.

According to the newspaper, Greek airline Aegean Airlines also announced that it will not continue flights to Israel until December 3.

In recent days, many other European airlines have also canceled or extended suspensions of their flights to Israel due to rising regional tensions.

On Wednesday, Spanish airline Iberia canceled flights to Israel through the end of November following a missile attack from Lebanon that crashed near a parking area at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport. Additionally, American Airlines has removed all flights to Israel from its system until September 2025.

Many other international airlines, including Virgin and Delta, have canceled flights to Israel until spring 2025.

Regional tensions have escalated over Israel’s brutal assault on the Gaza Strip, which has killed more than 43,500 people, mostly women and children, since last year.

The conflict spread to Lebanon; Israel has been carrying out increasingly deadly attacks across the country since the start of the Gaza war, following a year of cross-border fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.
