The Houston Texans are preparing for a big matchup against the Detroit Lions tonight on Sunday Night Football.

We spoke with Detroit Lions On SI contributor Christian Booher to learn more about the Texans’ opponent.

The Lions have one of the most complete rosters in the league, especially on offense. With so many offensive weapons, they have the ability to make up for lost production if a particular player has a bad night. Not only that, but Detroit’s offense has several potential All-Pro candidates. Opponents looking to beat them will need to score at least 30 points on most nights to knock off the Lions.

Their culture played a big role in the series’ comeback. Dan Campbell has molded them into a fearless group equipped with the confidence and determination to overcome challenges. The players in the locker room fully embraced the team’s vision, and as a result, this led to a smooth run and limited drama from team headquarters.

Houston’s defense appears to be shaken, with senior linebacker Will Anderson among the players injured ahead of Sunday’s game. If he can go, I’ll be excited to see how he fares with Lions tackles Penei Sewell and Taylor Decker.

I’m also looking forward to watching CJ Stroud work against the Lions’ second game. Detroit has one of the NFL’s best safety duos in Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch, and Stroud is one of the best young passers.

Detroit’s success on offense starts with the running game, as that opens up the rest of Ben Johnson’s scheme. As a result, struggling to run the ball early could spell disaster for Detroit.

Additionally, Jared Goff has avoided turnovers the last few games. If Houston’s defense forces a turnover or two, they can hold serve and put pressure on Detroit.

The Lions have been very excited lately, coming off an emotional win against the Green Bay Packers. Houston will face major challenges, especially if wide receiver Nico Collins returns from injured reserve. Although both teams have strong defenses, Ben Johnson and Houston’s Bobby Slowik are two of the best coordinators in the game and I see this game turning into a shootout as a result.

Lions 35, Texans 30.
