Man sentenced to prison for killing woman he was dating hours before he was arrested for drunken driving in 2023 Jeep Weekend

GALVESTON, Texas (KTRK) — A Galveston jury convicted a man accused of brutally murdering a woman he was with two years ago.

Raymond Bernard Borden Jr. faces 99 years in prison for the death of Tina Kelley. He was also sentenced to 10 years in prison for driving while intoxicated during the 2023 Jeep Weekend just hours after the murder.

According to investigators, in the early morning hours of May 21, 2023, Galveston County Sheriff’s Office deputies were flagged down by a woman who said she was rear-ended by a man inside a maroon Dodge truck before driving off.

Deputies tracked down the truck and identified the driver as Borden.

He was arrested and charged with DWI after having a blood alcohol concentration of 0.314, more than three times the legal limit.

Upon examination, a bag and wallet registered to Kelley were found in the truck. Kelley, who was found dead in his home with several gunshot wounds days later, was given a medical check-up.

Deputies also found a spent bullet casing in Borden’s pants pocket, the victim’s blood on his shoes and money in his pocket when he was booked into jail for a DWI arrest.

The murder weapon was also found in the truck Borden was driving when he was arrested.

Borden pleaded guilty to the murder, which authorities said occurred hours before his DWI arrest.

Authorities stated that he had been drinking every day for years and did not remember what happened that night.

The jury returned its verdict on murder and DWI after deliberating for less than an hour.
