Clermont County man convicted of stabbing his mother to death granted new trial

MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) – A man previously convicted of stabbing his mother to death will get a new trial less than a year after his sentencing.

The conviction of Joshua Amburgy, who is serving a life sentence, will be overturned, according to court documents.

Body camera footage from that day shows Joshua Amburgy attacking police with a knife. Officers shot him in the legs before taking him into custody.

Joshua Amburgy pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and was sentenced in November 2023 to life in prison with a minimum term of 41 years.

Court records show Amburgy is scheduled to appear before a Clermont County judge on Wednesday. The records did not specify the reason why Amburgy received a new scar.
