Winnipeg police: 4 teenage girls arrested after attacking woman and robbing downtown

Four teenage girls, ages 14 to 17, are accused of assaulting and robbing a 62-year-old woman in the city center on Sunday, Winnipeg police said.

At approximately 7:45 p.m., Winnipeg police responded to a report of a robbery in the 500 block of Main Street.

Police said four suspects tried to steal the victim’s phone. When he failed, they allegedly threw him to the ground and began physically assaulting him.

According to police, the suspects fled but later returned to continue attacking the victim and then fled the scene with some of the woman’s property.

The victim suffered minor injuries to his upper body but did not require medical attention.

The four suspects, all from Winnipeg, were arrested nearby a short time later. Police said the victim and suspects did not know each other.

A 17-year-old girl faces the following charges: robbery, two counts of failing to comply with conditions of undertaking and failure to appear in court. He is in custody.

Three other suspects, a 14-year-old girl and two 16-year-old girls, face the same robbery charges.
