Armed burglary suspect shot after entering home

RUSKIN, Fla. (WWSB) – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an armed residential burglary that resulted in the death of a suspect.

HCSO’s Communications Center received a call around 12:23 a.m. Sunday reporting a subject breaking into a residence on Double D Ranch Trail in Ruskin.

Police teams arriving at the scene found that the suspect was shot and killed with multiple bullets.

Detectives determined that the homeowner’s adult son shot the suspect after he entered the home.

“Imagine the fear of being woken up in the middle of the night by a stranger invading your home,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This is every homeowner’s biggest fear; the forced entry of a dangerous and insolent person with complete disregard for the safety and security of others. “Our thoughts are with this family as they recover from the trauma of this incident.”
