Shawn Michaels shares dream matches he’s never seen in WWE

Professional wrestling legend Shawn Michaels has spoken openly about this in the past, and so far that hasn’t changed: he’s done wrestling.

“I am. Yeah, I’m done in the ring. Absolutely,” Michaels said during an interview About upcoming WWE events in Hershey. “Yes sir. “I’m very comfortable being backstage.”

Michaels is now in charge behind the scenes NXT, WWE’s developmental brandThere he helps recruit and build the careers of young professional wrestlers and guides the program’s creative decisions.

“It means a lot to me when I look back and think there are so many memories,” Michaels said. “I really want to have the opportunity to provide those same dreams and aspirations to the young men and women who walk through our doors at the Performance Center at NXT.”

However, we couldn’t resist asking him about a few hypothetical matchups. if he would return to the ring.

Michaels, a multiple-time WWE Champion, had many suggestions. The first names that came to mind on the current WWE roster were Seth Rollins and AJ Styles.

“This is a list I could keep going through, but these are the first two that come to mind,” Michaels said.

Another name he added to this list was current WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther.

“I always thought I performed very well against big men,” he said. “So those are two different types of matches that I could have done if I were 20 or 30 years younger, it would be exciting.”

But if we’re talking hypothetical matches, why stop with the current WWE roster?

We then asked Michaels about dream matches he wishes he had during his career with wrestlers that either never came true or might have quit before they got the chance.

“I think he’s like Terry Funk,” Michaels said. “I think I could have been in the ring with him, but those were never real matches, so to speak. But Terry Funk would definitely be one of them. Harley Race would be another. So those are the two I’m thinking of.”

“Someone like Eddie Guerrero,” Michaels said of wrestlers of his generation.

“Eddie and I have never been in the ring with each other,” he said. “I think there are people you always think about and wish you had the opportunity to be with there. But time and circumstances didn’t allow for that.”

Another surprising omission from WWE’s heyday in the 1990s and early 2000s was Shawn Michaels vs. It was The Rock.

“I think it’s me and The Rock that people talk about and always want to see,” Michaels said. “But I think if you give someone long enough, a lot of us will have a pretty long list of people they can have great matches with.”

So, as for the current NXT roster; The wrestlers that Michaels calls “the superstars of tomorrow”?

What I think is very exciting right now are people changing the game for NXT,” Michaels said. “Trick Williams. Oba Femi is our North American Champion. “I think Tony D’Angelo is someone who has an incredibly bright future.”

Michaels also called out female NXT wrestlers like Jaida Parker, Giulia, Roxanne Perez, etc.

“NXT is incredibly full of talent,” Michaels said. The future looks incredibly bright.”
