Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case Trial Begins, Accused Sanjay Roy Claims He Was ‘Framed’ By Senior Police Officers

Kolkata, Nov 11 (PTI) The trial in a doctor’s rape and murder case began in a Kolkata court on Monday, three months after the doctor’s body was found at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital here.

The hearing was held in camera at the additional district court and sessions judge Anirban Das.

Prime accused Sanjay Roy, who was present in the court during the hearing, later claimed outside the court that he was framed by senior police officials, including former city police commissioner Vineet Goyal.

Police sources said that the victim’s father was present in court as a witness.

Roy appeared in court this afternoon and proceedings are being held in camera.

While leaving the court, the main defendant once again claimed that he was framed by the management and that he was innocent.

“Even today they didn’t let me talk. I didn’t do anything and I was blamed,” Roy told reporters as he was whisked away.

“Senior officers are involved in this. The government is supporting them. They are threatening me. I am giving you the names. These are Vineet Goel and DC Special… They conspired to implicate me in this,” Roy said.

He claimed his innocence when the accusation was brought against him on November 4.

Roy was booked under Article 64 (rape), Article 66 (punishment for causing death or resulting in a persistent vegetative state) and Article 103 (punishment for murder) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.

Roy was arrested by Kolkata Police on August 10, a day after the body of the woman doctor on duty was found in the seminar room of RG Kar hospital.

Later, the CBI started the investigation into the case on the orders of the Calcutta High Court.

The incident caused great outrage across the country. PTI SCH NN
