MAXTON, NC (WMBF) – A Maxton man is behind bars, accused of killing his 7-year-old daughter after opening fire on an occupied car.

The Maxton Police Department arrested 31-year-old Dedric Page in connection with the Sunday shooting and charged him with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and other weapons charges.

Just before 2 p.m., officers responded to East Graham Street for a child suffering from a gunshot wound. The girl, who was intervened by emergency services at the scene, later died in the hospital where she was taken.

Maxton Police Chief Schirra Johnson identified the girl as Quazariya Williams. Her mother told police Page was Williams’ father.

Johnson confirmed to WMBF News that police believe the mother was the primary target of the attack. Johnson confirmed there were five people in the car where the shots were fired, including the victim and his mother.
