Rams’ Sean McVay Speaks Out Over Non-Execution

The Los Angeles Rams (4-5) had one of their worst offensive games of the season on Monday Night Football, losing to the Miami Dolphins (3-6) by a score of 23-15. All 15 points were scored from the field and the offensive rhythm was non-existent all night.

Rams head coach Sean McVay was asked postgame if they looked “sloppy” tonight, unable to establish much of a running game or find receivers for clutch yards on third down.

“I think there are a lot of examples where we’re not consistent enough, especially when you look at it… carelessly?” said McVay. “Yeah, I mean, there was execution that needed to be better and I want to be able to go back and look at the tape, but those are things that we need to be able to clean up if we want to be that type of guy. Especially from an offensive standpoint, we’ve got to play better and consistently get better with the 11.” We have to perform.”

The Rams punted on three of their first four possessions, including an interception by quarterback Matthew Stafford, helping the Dolphins take a 10-0 lead early on. The offense never really improved as the Rams were 3-12 on third down conversions and 0-3 in the red zone.

They sent a rookie shooter Joshua Karty He struck out six different times, connecting on five field goals, including a career-long 55-yard kick. He may have been the only bright spot of the offense all day.

Stafford finished the game 32-46 with a 29-yard pass attempt and an interception. Many of those 14 incompletions came from the Dolphins’ red zone, with any of the Rams’ talented pass catchers never finding the end zone.

“I thought he did a good job under the circumstances,” McVay said of Stafford’s play. “I thought he kept the ball in play. There were times when you wanted to let things develop depending on the goal of the game, and we just couldn’t do that because.” He had to take the ball away from him.”

stafford He was under pressure all night, getting sacked four times with six hits to the quarterback. The primary reason for many incompletions and unsuccessful field goal attempts was the lack of time required to get the ball out efficiently and accurately. There should be a chance before next week’s competition.

The Rams will refocus on their upcoming opponents as they head to the east coast to battle the New England Patriots (3-7), another tough AFC East team. The Patriots are coming off nine sacks and that will be a major point of emphasis for the Rams in practice this week.
