SIRT releases more details about fatal crash – DiscoverMooseJaw.com

More details have been released by the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) regarding the fatal rollover incident on North Main Street.

The officer-involved accident was reported to SIRT by the Moose Jaw Police Department at approximately 12:33 a.m. Friday. SIRT Civil Enforcement Director accepted the notice and initiated an investigation.

According to SIRT, MJPS received a call around 11:42 pm on Friday that a silver Honda was driving erratically and was following the caller’s vehicle. The caller told police there had been a physical fight before.

At approximately 11:47 p.m., an MJPS member observed the vehicle traveling north on Main Street at a high rate of speed.

At 23.48, the police officer turned on the sirens and followed the vehicle and radioed that the Honda had crashed.

Emergency services were asked to come to the scene and it was determined that a 31-year-old man, one of the passengers in the vehicle, died at the scene. The driver and a second passenger were taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment.

The SIRT team, consisting of the Civil Enforcement Director and six SIRT investigators, will review the police’s actions during the incident. MJPS will remain responsible for the investigation into the driver’s actions.

No further information is being released at this time. The final report will be released to the public within 90 days after the investigation ends.
