Little boy nearly crashed when he entered busy Arizona intersection, video shows

ARIZONA — The heart-stopping video shows a little boy wandering down a busy street in Arizona and nearly being hit by passing cars before being rescued by a good Samaritan.

The scary moment happened Friday at an intersection in Mesa that Adriana Bello said is always very busy. Just then he saw a 2-year-old boy running across the street wearing nothing but a diaper.

“I honk my horn as if he can hear me… thinking to get out of the way,” he said.

Two oncoming cars swerved and another woman narrowly avoided hitting the toddler before she could bring him to safety.

The little boy’s father, Alexander Schabel, said he was not at home at the time of the incident. The child’s mother was looking after five children when she left the house to go to the gas station.

“He took the older kids there. He says the kids were sleeping. I don’t know if they were sleeping, but he didn’t lock the door,” Schabel said.

He says he was alerted to this by a Ring doorbell indicating a stranger on his porch.

“A random woman was holding my baby… It was like your child was almost run over in the street.”

Schabel says she is relieved that her child is safe at home.

“People need to be careful when driving because things like this can happen.”

Neighbors are happy that the incident did not end in tragedy.

“It’s an absolute miracle that that kid wasn’t hurt at all,” Bello said.

The Arizona Department of Child Safety is investigating the incident. No arrests were made and the child was returned safely to his grandmother.
