Tyler Couture, 32, was indicted by a Somerset County grand jury on Oct. 10 on one count of threatening with a dangerous weapon and three counts of tampering with a witness or informant, according to court records released to the media by Somerset on Friday. County District Attorney’s Office. All are class C counts.

The new indictment adds one count of Class A burglary and one count of aggravated assault, which Couture was charged with in July 2023, according to court records in Skowhegan.

Couture was arrested in February 2023 after a months-long investigation by the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office. Alleged break-in and assault at a residence on Main Street in Bingham. On the night of May 29, 2022. Two other Bingham residents – Christopher Corwin and Margaret Corwin – were also charged in connection with the incident.

According to the indictment and an 18-page probable cause affidavit prepared by Somerset County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Michael Lyman, Couture assaulted one of the residents with a firearm during the armed robbery. The man who was attacked suffered multiple broken teeth and other minor injuries.

According to investigators, one shot was fired during a physical struggle, but no one was hit.

According to the new indictment filed last month, it is alleged that Couture made or attempted to become a witness or informant in the case of “withholding testimony information or evidence” in Madison on February 12, 15 and 16, 2023.

The person named in the indictment is identified as Couture’s mother in a probable cause affidavit written by Somerset County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jack LePage regarding a separate arrest of Couture in Moscow on August 17. Couture was later arrested on misdemeanor-level charges of domestic violence assault, criminal threatening domestic violence, terrorizing domestic violence, and violation of condition of release.

The Morning Sentinel does not identify alleged victims of domestic violence without their consent.

Defense attorney information for Couture was not available Tuesday. The attorney Couture retained, Roger F. Brunelle Jr. of a Portland law firm, withdrew his practice in October, citing a court filing citing Couture’s failure to meet his “financial obligations” and a lack of communication. Court records do not indicate whether Couture has since retained another attorney or whether a replacement attorney has been appointed in his place.

On burglary and aggravated assault charges, Couture was released from jail on bail with a $175,000 lien on his property on Mayfield Road in Moscow, according to court records. Following his arrest this August, Couture posted $1,000 cash bail.

An indictment is not a finding of guilt, but it indicates that there is sufficient evidence for a case to proceed to trial.
