A man was arrested for voluntarily causing grievous bodily harm following an altercation with two men at Kinex shopping mall in Tanjong Katong on November 9.

The two men were taken to Changi General Hospital (CGH); One had a dislocated shoulder, his palm and scalp were bitten, and the other had scratches on his face.

The man with the dislocated shoulder, who gave his name as Sam, was allowed to stay in hospital for 23 days, while his friend Dan was given MC for two days. Both men refused to give their real names.

Dan, a 30-year-old sales executive, told The Straits Times that the altercation occurred after the suspect allegedly touched him inappropriately. Dan and Sam, a 28-year-old vehicle mechanic, were leaving the restroom on the third floor of the shopping mall when the incident occurred.

The two men said they did not know the suspect who entered the toilet at that time. The duo added that they confronted the suspect both before entering the toilet and after leaving it. They called the police, and one of them filmed their conversation after the suspect came out of the restroom.

In the video, the suspect denies touching Dan before walking away.

Sam said he and Dan followed the man at the mall after calling the police, worried he might run away.

According to the duo, the three men then got into a fight near the elevator lobby on the same floor.

When contacted, police and the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) confirmed that they were alerted to the incident at 9.45pm and 9.55pm respectively. While SCDF took the two men to CGH, police arrested a 29-year-old man for voluntarily causing grievous bodily harm.

Investigations continue.

Sam’s fiancée, who gave her name as Shan, described his injuries as follows: “Sam’s daily routine was disrupted. “He cannot function normally and may require surgery.”
